HAND STITCHED around the perimeter of the sole - minimising the use of glue and allowing the skin to breathe. By FORCE LASTING summer flats, we have revived an old tradition with beautiful stitch detail. A good pattern cutter cuts the upper to precision which is then stitched – not glued – on to the sole. The result is soft shoes which fit like second skin. HOURGLASS shaped soles narrow at the arch, allowing unrestricted natural movement like in modern dance shoes. AAR, a hook shaped tool is used to embroider directly into leather. This amazing art is specific to shoes and has been practiced for over 500 years. Wool, Silk, Jute and even re-cycled wire is EMBROIDERED into the leather to make beautiful yet resilient shoes. DAPKA, tiny metal coils are threaded onto velvet to create an immensely ornate yet street worthy shoes. This is used in the QUEEN Bee and only women work on these as they require detail, precision and patience – it takes a woman 2 ½ days to finish a pair. MATERIALs we use -soft NAPPA leather from sheep, supple COW skins, GOAT for its beautiful grain, icelandic fish skin from SALMON and WOLF FISH, RALLIs - tribal quilts made from re-cycled cotton fabric, wool , velvet.
